What Is Veillonella?

Veillonella is the word that sounds like a sweet-smelling flower. It sounds like a flower but actually, it is not any flower that you can pluck or grow in your lawn. It relates to the oral smell. It is the natural smell that creates in the mouth. You can feel this oral smell if you are having any gum disease, especially like periodontal or tooth decay. This can create an unpleasant smell in the mouth who are having such diseases. Many people are affected by veillonella on a regular basis.
The Term Veillonella Means
The term veillonella refers to a common bacterium anaerobic. This is from class cocci bacterium. These are small cocci bacteria. These bacteria need carbon dioxide to grow which means they can grow without oxygen. If you see a microscopic view of veillonella, it will show you the round shape. These bacteria are stagnant and appear in pairs.

Anyhow, this is not the only bacteria present in the mouth. In the mouth, we can have more than 200 bacteria of the different types. These bacteria badly affect oral hygiene. Veillonella helps in increasing the oral cavity and tooth decay. When veillonella combines with the streptococcus bacteria, they work together and create plaque on the enamel. So, ultimately veillonella creates the gum disease. To avoid veillonella you should prevent from plaque. And to prevent plaque flossing and daily brushing is essential to your daily oral habit. By the merger of streptococcus bacteria and veillonella, a variety of bacteria formed but during the first few days the bacteria which is dominant in plaque is streptococci and only 5% veillonella is present during first few days.

Why Veillonella Forms?
Bacterial community’s formation is not random. They are pretty much selective and choosey. They developed on the way that supports the growth of many species of bacteria instantly. I do not know you will going to believe it or not but that is the way this bacterium works. For example, veillonella does not form due to sugar diet such as Streptococci does. So, the fact is, this bacterium could not grow if it didn't coexist with Streptococci, and of Corse, there are some other species of bacteria that need the environment created by this bacterium in turn.
The problematic situation for your oral health is you do not realize at the initial stage that you are having bacteria in your mouth and on the enamel. It requires a long time to get exposed. People usually realize after the tooth decay. So, visit your dentist frequently for proper examination. Removing of plaque is a very essential point and for that flossing and brushing your teeth twice a day is the key. Veillonella attacks the lower gum line of the teeth and it destroys the teeth support and tissues of the gums. If you left it untreated it will result in permanent tooth loss.

Your Role and Responsibility
As I mentioned above, your primary responsibility is to remove plaque on the daily basis. Here, a thing I must tell you is, when you neglect your oral hygiene you welcome a huge force of bacteria to attack. Negligence regarding oral hygiene can destroy your teeth. The bacteria build up on a daily basis. Veillonella builds again and again in your mouth and on the outer surface of your teeth. So, it is your daily duty to pay proper attention and care to your oral health. I repeat flossing is the most important things to remove plaque and to say goodbye to bacteria.

If you miss a single day of flossing and brushing your teeth, the bacterial attack is back right here. Moreover, clean your tongue on a regular basis. You can wash out bacteria by cleaning your tongue by the toothbrush and get rid of bad mouth odor.
